Narcos is a gritty crime drama about the infamous drug lord Pablo Escobar. Narcos chronicles the life of the ruthless criminal, who became an international icon of wealth through his control of cocaine distribution in Colombia. The series documents Escobar's journey from his humble roots to becoming one of the most powerful drug lords in history. The show has gained momentum with 6 Emmy Awards and 2 Golden Globe Awards, but it doesn't end there. The series has even gained the attention of the notorious drug lord's family, and in a bombshell revelation in September 2016, Escobar's son Sebastian Marroquin told the Daily Mail in an exclusive interview: "My father was a great man". How Narcos has become one of the most popular TV shows is easy to answer: it is an entertaining and well-acted show that tells a fascinating story. However, the real question is why such a big part of this show's success comes from its soundtrack. Each episode opens with an ambient soundscape that takes us back to the era when Escobar was at his peak. The smooth sounds of jazz and hip hop tunes set into one another create a mysterious and sometimes ominous mood. Narcos shows turbulent times that never end to the years of the late 1980s and early 1990s, all while blending in many popular soundtracks. Most of the songs are accompanied with scenes looking at Escobar looking over his empire. The use of music, combined with images, has made Narcos an instant success. "Narcos" tells the story of Escobar's rise to power and what it takes to be a drug lord through his soundtracks' popularity It should not come as a surprise then that "Narcos" attracts listeners even though the first season has just ended. The series created a hype surrounding the soundtrack. It was released on July 2015 and it achieved success with its mixture of genres and songs chosen. The use of music in "Narcos" is much like that of "Madea's Family Reunion" (2012) and "Music and Lyrics" (2013), where songs are chosen based on movie scenes; however, "Narcos" chooses songs for their emotional impact. The variety of sounds, including old-school hip hop, house music, big band jazz, and even rock songs such as Led Zeppelin's "Immigrant Song", makes the soundtrack stand out among other series soundtracks. The soundtrack was composed by the award-winning German composer and producer Adrian Younge, who has created music for movies such as "Twilight: Breaking Dawn – Part 1" (2011) and "Almost Christmas" (2016). Two versions of the soundtrack were released: one with the original score and another with popular songs from the 1980s and 1990s. The first season of Narcos features a variety of music pieces; however, only a few reached popularity. The song chosen to open each episode is "Explosive Violence" by Kool Keith, which was produced by DJ Muggs. The song is featured at the beginning of each episode as an instrumental. 21cfa1e7782077
